Activity:

  • Race has been involved in spreading the Aids awareness program in the Red Light area since Nov 1999
  • 781 women have been educated about aids,
  • 186 girls have stayed at RACE for a long / short term
  • 42 girls have been repatriated and united with their parents
  • Two major surgeries have been carried out, (one eye correction and one elbow)
  • 4 rescued girls have completed a years beautician course
  • 32 children in house at present
  • 20 children are attending a local school
  • 2 girls sat for their SSC last year. (one passed and one is to reappear for 2 sub)
  • 15 cases of minors were identified by RACE, this information was passed on to Rescue Organizations, raids were conducted and these girls were rescued
  • RACE continues to play a silent role in searching out minors
  • Highest number of girls at Race 55.

Objectives:

  • To identify the difficulties, problems, obstacles face by women & children in prostitution in India and work to solving them
  • To work towards prevention of trafficking of women / children
  • Undertake relief and release of women / children in prostitution
  • Rehabilitate rescued children from prostitution
  • Rehabilitate girl children of women in prostitution
  • Educate and give them life skills

Mumbai is a mega city where some people pursue their dreams, some people make it big whereas some people make others dreams go wary and make life miserable for others. One such category is of the minor children who get waylaid in the city and end up as sex workers, beggars, drug peddlers or just petty criminals. A drive to any part of the city is resplendent with such children in Mumbai.

What does RACE offer ?

RACE is a place where girls can find safety and hope in an environment that promotes education, self-reliance, acceptance and a future. RACE provides an environment to healthy development for the young girls rescued from prostitution.

Who are the targeted population?

The main residents of RACE are rescued commercial sex workers (minors), daughters of sex workers who are below 18 years of age as well as young girls who have run away from home and are at risk of being sold into prostitution.
